Boomtown Lounge

Boomtown Lounge is an intimate Old-West speakeasy with an apothecary ambiance, a wine and beer bar with specialty cocktails tucked away in historic downtown Downieville.

We love Boomtown because they support small beer and wine makers who don't use big distributors. You cannot find many of their selections in stores. Get ready to step back in time, with the speakeasy-like atmosphere where you can get to know the Downieville locals all while tasting some of the most interesting fermentables available.

Local’s Tip: Get in early for a good seat in the hidden room off the side and ask to play the giant Jenga game! Stop in every Thursday evening for Trivia Night. Doors open at 4:00 pm, game starts at 5:30 pm. Prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers. 21 and over only. Call ahead to reserve a table! 530-862-5043

St-Charles-Place-2
St. Charles Place Cocktails

Housed in the historic Craycroft building which dates to 1853, the St. Charles Place has been a Downieville landmark for decades. The town's only full-service bar, it is a historic watering hole that caters to locals and visitors alike. Whether sitting at the bar enjoying a drink, playing pool, or sitting on the back deck with its Downie River view, the St. Charles is a local institution.

With nearly a 170-year history, the Craycroft building began life as Jack Craycroft's Saloon. One of the community's first imposing structures, the Craycroft also housed the county court of sessions and county jail. In the fall of 1853, Sierra County's first district attorney Thaddeus Purdy was shot and killed outside the building during an attempted lynching.

Local’s Tip: They use the TouchTunes app so you can curate your music. Ask the bartender about the history of this place and the ghost stories… and bring your friendly pooch, as this place caters to good dogs – who frequent the bar.

La-Cocina-2
La Cocina De Oro Taqueria

Right on Main Street in Downieville, you will find a little slice of Mexican fusion farm-to-table heaven! If you love local, organic produce, including Fog Dog Farms and You Bet Farms, you will love this place! They use sustainable wild-and-line-caught fish, local farm fresh eggs, fresh local greens, and local fresh tortillas.

Try one of their plates that includes an organic green salad, or go for the veggie burrito, stuffed with steamed organic bok choy and kale, rice, pinto beans and cabbage. Our only complaint about Feather’s is we wish she was open 24/7 & 365. But Small-town living means they often close early and are open seasonally.
